Greetings to our readers and welcome back to your daily dose of weblinks and creative commentary. I could just babble on and on about nothing in general (which some would say is quite normal), but I will forgo that and take us right into the linkies...

• Planetside is now free for a year. The client download is here, and I am sure there are limits on rank and what not. But its free and that is in our motto...
• Galactic Civilizations 2 will be releasing a demo this week. This game has several things going for it: No copy protection schemes, a small independent developer, and a great game to boot. Try the demo and if you like it - pick up a copy.
• The World of Warcraft boardgame will be seeing its first expansion later this year, and Gaming Report found out a few details. We played this game once and it was pretty fun and captured the computer game's essence pretty well. Now if we could just collectively write a review...
• At this year's GDC, Microsoft held a Blogger's breakfast of champions, and Joystiq had some shots and details from the meeting. This would have been a great place to meet other bloggers in our little game space (including Gaming Steve). Someday when we grow up, I want to go to a Bloggers Breakfast... Well at least for the food
• Avalon Hill continues to work on their collectable minis game, Axis and Allies, and have announced a naval expansion.

Galactic Civilizations 2 has been out for quite a few weeks now.
Or maybe it was a release for previous customers only? I'm not sure, but they did refer to it as final release version, and not another beta.

And it's a very good game for its genre, though of course a huge time-sink like the rest of them.

Yaron, the Gal Civ2 news is that its a demo for all those folks who have not had bought it yet to get all warm and snuggly about it - and we know who you are...

Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification.
I'm used to seeing most games having a demo before, or together with, the actual release...
